Barcelona came out of the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie against AS Roma with a big 4-1 lead, but with the second leg heading back to Italy, the job is far from done.
Roma got battered around in the first leg, but in terms of just the run of play things were a little more even than the scoreline indicated. They felt hard done by a few of the referee’s decisions, but in the end they’re still staring at a three-goal deficit against Barcelona’s high-powered attack. They do have an away goal in their advantage, but they need to score three times while keeping Barcelona silent for that to count for anything.
And the odds of Roma keeping Barcelona’s attack silent seem fairly low. They got rocked this weekend by Fiorentina, and have seemed a little shaky for a couple of weeks now, dating back to a deeply disappointing draw with Bologna. Given how free-scoring Barcelona have been of late, Barcelona might wind up with a few more than just the four goals they came in with.
